Soviel zum Rentner Musher Hans Gatt !!!
Iditarod Trail CommitteeSeite gefällt mir 6 Std. The 78th musher has signed up for the 2016 Iditarod! Welcome to the starting line up, Hans!
Hans Gatt, 57, grew up on a farm in Austria. His passion for sled dog racing began when he attended a dog sled race in Europe. After winning all eight races entered in his first year of racing, including the European championship, Hans moved to Canada in 1990 to race in North America. He has won the Yukon Quest four times, finished the Iditarod in the top 10 four times and finished at the top of many other races in sprint, stage, mid-distance and long distance.
He lived in Atlin, B.C. for 17 years and now lives three km south of Whitehorse, Yukon, with Susie Rogan and 48 dogs, including seven pups and 18 retired dogs. Hans says, “I took a look at the dogs in the fall and decided I still have an Iditarod team out there. I’m hoping for a good race for all the dogs and mushers in the 2016 Iditarod.”
In the summer he says he rides bikes, and kayaks a bit, and builds sleds. And in the winter, “I mostly run dogs.” Hans builds a line of high performance dog sleds for mid-distance, stage, and ultra-long distance racing. As of 2013, Gattsled is now also building sleds for the dog sled tourism industry with the same eye on quality and job—specific performance.
