quelle: www.ibc.ca%2Fpdffiles%2Fpublications%2Fbrochures%2Fconsumer%2Fcar_insurance_tips_visitors.pdf" target="_blank">http://canadaonline.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ibc.ca%2Fpdffiles%2Fpublications%2Fbrochures%2Fconsumer%2Fcar_insurance_tips_visitors.pdf
Non-U.S. visitors to Canada Car insurance is compulsory when driving anywhere on public roads in Canada. The liability insurance required by law protects you if you cause an accident injuring someone, or damaging someone else's property. Visitors planning to bring their own cars to Canada from overseas, may find it difficult to arrange insurance in advance in their home country. In this case, as soon as you arrive in Canada, you should contact an insurance agent or broker to arrange suitable coverage. The easiest way to find a convenient office is by referring to the Yellow Pages of the local telephone directory under "insurance agents & brokers." In three Canadian provinces -- British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan -- car insurance is provided under government monopoly programs. If your point of entry into Canada is to be in one of these provinces, we recommend that you obtain the relevant insurance information from the provincial authorities before leaving your home country. It would be to your advantage to bring with you written evidence of your driving and insurance claims record during the past five years. This will help you get the best price possible for your insurance in Canada. The insurance you obtain in any jurisdiction in Canada is valid in all other Canadian jurisdictions, as well as in any state of the United States. If you're travelling further south, you should be aware that Mexico does not recognize insurance issued outside its borders. Visitors are required to purchase insurance at the point of entry into that country. If you plan to buy a vehicle in Canada, you should be able to arrange the required insurance with an insurance agent or broker near where you purchase the vehicle. Again, refer to the Yellow Pages of the local telephone directory for assistance. In most cases, car insurance policies have a minimum term of six months. If you sell your vehicle before the end of the period, you can obtain a refund for the unused portion. If you plan to rent a car during your visit, you'll normally receive the required insurance protection with the rental agreement. Whether you plan to bring your own vehicle, or to purchase or rent one on arrival, you would be wise to obtain an international driver's licence before coming to Canada gespeichert
