Überquerung der Beringstraße / crossing Berining

Ich bin Harry, 45, Niederländer und wohne schon seit über 20 Jahren in Deutschland. Beruflich bin ich relativ viel unterwegs, allerdings sehe ich vielfach nur Airports, Autobahnen und immer die gleichen irgendwie immer gleichen Hotelzimmer. Nach drei Reisen die ich beruflich nach Südamerika unternahm, habe ich mir (oder heiß es in der deutschen Sprache „mich“) ein Ziel vor Augen genommen und zwar möchte ich einmal mit der Auto von Deutschland, durch Russland über Alaska, den Panamericana herunter nach Brasilien Reisen. Aber wie komme ich über diese Bering Straße oder Bering See? Kann irgendwer hierzu eine Auskunft erteilen?

I am Harry, 45, Dutchman and living in Germany since more than 2 years. Due to my job I use to travel quite a lot, unfortunately just seeing airports, motorways and somehow always the same shape of hotel rooms. After travelling three times to South America, I challenged my self and I would like to travel by car once from Germany through Russia, via Alaska Southwards via the Panamerica towards Brazil. But how to cross the Bering Strait or Bering Sea? Is there anybody who could give me some usefull information?

Hi Harry
I was searching the internet for the same reason like you. I´ve found out that it is impossible to cross the bering strait by car. It does freeze over, but not strong enough for a car.
I got my info from this web page:www.pmel.noaa.gov/bering/ Go on chat room, there are competent people, who know about the bering sea. If you found out more, will you write me? Good luck

Hi Harry,
Besides trying to charter your own boat or to get on a commercial fishing vessel, you could try to contact Society Expeditions. In June 2000, they offer a voyage in their program that begins in Nome, Alaska, crosses the Bering Strait, calls on the port of Provideniya, Russia, but then returns (with several stops on the way) to Seward, Alaska. However, if you have the proper visas, they might be inclined to let you off in Russia. For additional info check their website at http://www.societyexpeditions.com
